Important Information

This is an important update regarding the computer insurance program provided by the school district. In the past, the computer insurance program was mandatory for all students who were issued school devices. We have transitioned the program to an optional basis. This change aims to provide flexibility and allow families to make the best decision regarding insurance coverage for their child's school-issued computer.

As technology continues to play a crucial role in education, we understand the importance of protecting these devices against unforeseen incidents and potential financial burdens. To continue supporting families who wish to safeguard their child's school-issued computer, we will still offer an optional computer insurance program.

Key Details of the Optional Computer Insurance Program:

  • Premium: The annual premium for this insurance policy remains at $20 per student. This amount covers the entire school year and can be paid alongside any existing school fees.
  • Deductible: In the event of a claim, there will be a deductible of $50 per incident. This means that if your child's computer requires repair or replacement, you will only be responsible for paying the deductible amount, and the insurance will cover the remaining costs.
  • Coverage: The insurance policy provides coverage for accidental damage, theft, vandalism, fire, power surges, and other unforeseen events that may occur with your child's school-issued device. Please note that intentional damage or loss will not be covered by the insurance.

While participation in the optional computer insurance program is no longer mandatory, we strongly encourage you to consider this opportunity to protect your child's school-issued computer. The program offers an affordable solution to potential repair or replacement costs that may arise from accidental damage or theft. Please read below to find more about pricing without insurance coverage.

If you opt into the school's computer insurance, please see Meghan Atkins in the high school guidance department or Shelly Fitch in the BEMS Bookstore. They will also be available at distribution. The $20 premium must be paid by September 8, 2023.

The table shows the current cost of the Chromebook part; the school does not charge for labor. Note: 3-8 students have non-touch screens. High school students have touch screens. Please note liquid damage often is a total loss and requires the replacement of the entire device.
